MLS W2W4: Are Pity, de Boer really turning the corner in Atlanta?

It's another big home date for Pity Martinez and Atlanta United against New York City FC, while red-hot Marco Fabian and the Philadelphia Union host struggling Houston, plus Seattle and New England will each try to rebound from home defeats.

Pity and de Boer turn a corner in Atlanta

Pity Martinez's rocky start to life at Atlanta United has been mentioned many times before on these pages, and just two weeks ago the Argentine looked downright incredulous when coach Frank de Boer yanked him off...

Martinez: Atlanta's Pity, Barco 'special talents'

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Atlanta United forward Josef Martinez says he soon hopes to play in the same starting lineup again with Ezequiel Barco and Gonzalo "Pity" Martinez, saying his two teammates are "special talents."

Martinez will take part in his second consecutive MLS All-Star Game on Wednesday, and hopes to reprise his MVP performance from a year ago. But much of the news around him and his Atlanta United teammates is how the Five Stripes have failed to play at the same level that saw them claim...

'Pity' Martinez aiming to keep Atlanta on top, enhance chances for a European future

Miguel Almiron's big-money move to Newcastle United in January may have helped change perceptions of Major League Soccer. Much more than an elephant's graveyard, the top professional league in the United States has clearly found alternative models -- such as bringing in some of the biggest talents from South America, having success with them, and then maybe selling them on at a healthy profit.

Atlanta United probably hope that history will repeat itself with their Almiron replacement, Gonzalo "Pity"...

Atlanta United acquire Gonzalo 'Pity' Martinez from River Plate

Atlanta United have acquired attacking midfielder Gonzalo "Pity" Martinez from River Plate, the club announced on Thursday.

Martinez, 25, was named South American Player of the Year for 2018 as he helped lead River to a Copa Libertadores title over archrivals Boca Junior in the final.

"We're excited to announce we've secured Gonzalo to a long-term contract with our club," said Atlanta United Vice President and Technical Director Carlos Bocanegra.

"Recently named as the best player in South America...

South American success now a path to MLS as much as to Europe's elite

Guillermo Barros Schelotto opens up in his first interview with the LA Galaxy as to why he chose the club and his thoughts for the upcoming season.

At the end of each year, the El Pais newspaper in Uruguay organises a survey to crown the best player of the Americas. The 2018 winner, with a commanding 41 percent of the vote, was River Plate's attacking midfielder Gonzalo "Pity" Martinez -- a player South American fans will not be seeing for a while. Martinez announced after the Club World Cup he was taking his left-footed flair to the United States to join Atlanta United in Major League Soccer.

Two conclusions can be drawn from this. One is...

River Plate's Gonzalo 'Pity' Martinez confirms Atlanta United move after Club World Cup

Gonzalo "Pity" Martinez has said he will leave River Plate and join MLS side Atlanta United after the FIFA Club World Cup.

The winger, who scored River Plate's third goal in Sunday's 3-1 Copa Libertadores second-leg win over Boca Juniors in Madrid, will move after four seasons at the club.

"I want to inform people that in January I will not continue," Martinez told TyC Sports. "It's been a very difficult decision for me, but my journey continues. I think I've given people what they deserve,...
